Asthma and Vocal Cord Dysfunction



The diagnosis of asthma (the chronic inflammatory disease) can be complicated as there are a few illnesses that can mimic the symptoms of asthma, and lead to a misdiagnosis.

Although there are quite a few other illnesses that can cause confusion the most common is vocal cord dysfunction syndrome that can mimic an asthma attack.

The symptom of difficulty in breathing can be caused by abnormal movements of the voice box during breathing.

This can mimic a severe asthma attack so closely that a correct diagnosis is difficult.

It is only through the correct diagnosis that that appropriate can be prescribed.
